Run a local marathon and help Scotland’s animals

We are calling on local animal lovers to enter Baxter's Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running to raise vital funds to help save Scotland’s abused, abandoned and injured animals.

Loch NessWe are encouraging runners, or those looking for a challenge to take part in the popular event, which takes place on Sunday 6 October and includes the Marathon, a 10k River Ness/Corporate Challenge, a 5k Fun Run and a Wee Nessie Race for children under five years old.

Elaine Floyd, manager of our Highlands and Islands Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Inverness, said, “Baxter’s Loch Ness Marathon Festival is a fantastic way for locals to help animals in the area.

“Last year our centre found loving new homes for over 490 pets and we have already rehomed nearly 140 animals this year.

“The ‘Wee Nessie Race’ for children is a great opportunity for kind-hearted youngsters to get involved and make a difference in their community.

“As we don’t receive any government funding, we really do rely on people taking part in fundraising events like the marathon to continue our work and anyone who participates in the event will be helping save lives of animals across Scotland.”
